Pulitzer Prize for William Styron's Nat Turner

William Styron, a white author, is awarded the Pulitzer Prize in fiction for The Confessions of Nat Turner, based on the true story of an 1831 slave revolt in Virginia. Ten black authors write essays criticizing the work, collected in William Styron's Nat Turner: Ten Black Writers Respond.
